110超遠程精密跟蹤雷達５０年代起，國外就發展了彈道導彈武器等。我國為了積極防御，能探測幾千里以外的入侵目標，必須研制超遠程的預警、跟蹤雷達，對外空目標的探測、跟蹤，建立彈道導彈預警（空間監視）系統、防御系統。１９５８年提出研制超遠程雷達。雷達技術專家申仲義擔起了這一十分艱巨的任務。他帶領１４所工程技術人員從預先研究開始，在突破多項關鍵技術后才進入工程設計階段。１９５９年他組織研制一部１１０模擬試驗雷達，首次收到了離地球３８萬公里的月球的較強回波，取得了觀測外空目標的初步成果。１９６５年到１９７０年又開展了卡塞格倫式單脈沖天線、脈沖壓縮、脈沖多卜勒測速、參量放大器、先進計算機的應用、大型天線結構及轉臺的研究。上述各種新技術的突破，為研制超遠程１１０跟蹤雷達作了前期工程準備，進入了工程實施階段。１９７７年，我國第一部超遠程跟蹤雷達裝備了部隊。它能在２０００多公里以外跟蹤非合作的外空目標，在我國發射洲際火箭、衛星等工程中多次執行了跟蹤測量國外的外空目標的任務。１１０雷達的研制成功，使我國成為世界上第三個擁有這種大型雷達的國家。
