橈足綱橈足綱Copepoda甲殼動物亞門的一綱。全世界已知約有8400種,中國已發現淡水300余種,海洋約500種。橈足類身體一般1~4毫米。由16~17個體節組成,由于愈合,一般不超過11節。體軀分為前體部和后體部,其間有1活動關節。前體部較為寬大,包括頭部和胸部。頭部一般由6個頭節與第一胸節(或第一、二胸節)愈合而成。背面有1個單眼或1對晶體。其腹面有6對附肢。胸部有3~5個自由體節,各有1對胸足,第5對胸足有顯著雌雄區別。后體部(又稱腹部)較短小,由3~5節組成,雌性第一、二節愈合。雄性第一腹節為生殖節,末節最小,因具肛門,稱為肛節,其末端有1對尾叉。雌雄異體。少數寄生種類為雌雄同體。一般進行兩性生殖,少數營孤雌生殖。雌雄異形。寄生種類雄體極小,常附著于雌體生殖器官附近。營自由生活的橈足類棲息于各種不同的水域,在世界各海洋、各種淡水水域苔蘚植物叢,潮濕的樹皮上或葉腋中都有分布。寄生種類多見于魚的體表、鰭、鰓、鼻孔、口腔或眼眶等處。淡水橈足類和個別海洋橈足類有休眠現象。橈足類的食性多樣化,有濾食型、掠食型、刮食型和混合型。浮游橈足類是很多經濟魚類的餌料。因此,可以根據某些浮游橈足類的數量分布來尋找漁場,還可以根據很多橈足類的分布情況探索海流的流向和測定水體污染的程度。淡水橈足類中的某些掠食性種類侵襲魚卵或魚苗,給魚類的繁殖帶來危害。有些淡水種類是寄生蠕蟲(吸蟲、絳蟲、線蟲)的中間宿主。還有不少種類直接寄生于魚類和無脊椎動物體表或消化道內,危害寄主的繁殖和發育。該綱分7個目:哲水蚤目、劍水蚤目、猛水蚤目、怪水蚤目、瘤水蚤目、顎虱目和魚虱目。
