木薯木薯Manihotesculenta大戟科木薯屬多年生亞灌木。又稱樹薯。為熱帶和亞熱帶地區重要的糧食和飼料作物,與馬鈴薯和甘薯并稱為世界三大薯類作物。木薯原產熱帶美洲。16世紀傳入非洲,18世紀傳入亞洲,現已廣布于南北緯30°之間的熱帶和部分亞熱帶地區。主產國為巴西、泰國、扎伊爾、印度尼西亞、尼日利亞和印度等。中國于19世紀20年代引種,現在淮河秦嶺一線以南、無霜期在8個月以上、年平均氣溫16℃以上的地區多有栽培;而以廣東、廣西種植較多。圖片莖直立,木質,高1~3米。塊根肉質,圓錐形、圓柱形或紡錘形。葉紙質,互生,掌狀深裂,裂片披針形、橢圓形或線形。圓錐花序頂生或腋生,單性花,雌雄同株;也有些品種不開花。蒴果球形,種子褐色,光滑有斑紋。適應性強,耐旱、耐瘠,在平原、荒坡、山地或丘陵,不論砂土或粘土上都能生長。以氣溫25~29℃、年降水量1000~1500毫米且分布均勻的溫暖濕潤環境為最適。木薯一般用種莖扦插繁殖。鮮薯易變質腐爛,收獲后應盡快加工成淀粉、干片、干薯粒等。生長期間的主要病害有病毒病、細菌性疫病、褐葉斑病和枯萎葉斑病;主要蟲害有螨類、薊馬、地老虎、白蟻等。鮮薯(塊根)約含淀粉25%~35%,是熱帶地區的重要食糧,也可用以制漿料、酒精、果糖、葡萄糖、味精或塑料纖維、塑料薄膜、涂料和膠粘劑等。葉片營養豐富,可作豬、蠶、魚等的飼料。莖稈可造紙,也可作燃料或用于培養木耳。木薯各部分都含氰酸,有毒,其含量因品種、施用的肥料和氣候條件而異。鮮薯肉質部分經浸水、干燥等去毒處理后方可食用或飼用。
